This barley wine is a blend of multiple batches of beer which were aged in different spirits oak barrels. Its complex aroma and taste of oak, dark and sweet caramel, dark fruits and berries is a product of a complex brewing combined with the long of time spent in oak barrels. It will cellar very well, but do not go into decades of ageing... It is a sipper and perfect to share on a special occasion.

Blend 1116 - 12,1 % alc, bordeaux violet wax.

Oldest first, and it clearly got a bit of age, but still very good. Lots of red fruit (cherries, wine) and plenty of wood. Even some whisky. Feels a bit alcoholic, and would have liked a bit more syrupy body.

Bottle, bought in Austria summer 2019. Color: Very dark, murky brown, no head. Aroma: Sweet, sirupy, fudge, butterscotch, dried dark fruit. Taste: Boozy, Bourbon, dark dried fruit, sweet fudge, sirup, some vanilla and cocoa. Subtle oak. Maybe some red wine hints also. Dry-ish and very sticky mouthfeel. Over medium sweet, moderate bitterness. Full body, very low carbonation. Very sweet but also very nice, great complexity. Rated lower than Hagger 0318, but I think that's because my taste has changed and because I now have a little less love for those sweet beers.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Malt, toffee and dried fruit in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with butterscotch, dried fruit, vanilla and oak. Complex, soft vinous notes. Beautiful!

Almost impossible to open due to that frigging candlewax… why??? Dark brown, small head. Aroma is complex, barrel age, oak, wood, fruit, alcohol, berry, hint of chocolate. Taste is the same, alcohol warmth, sweet, bitter, looong chocolate fruity aftertaste, very good

Tasting at Matt's
Dark brown colour. Strong alcohol aroma, malt, fudge. Strong alcohol feeling, quite good malt flavour, moderately sweet, deep and rich malt, strong bourbon too, light sourness (fitting in actually).
Excellent.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma is immense and decadent, with dark fruits, oak, brown sugar, and caramel. Flavour is intense, with lots of sweet dark dried fruits, caramel, oak, and brown sugar. Quite sweet, with lots of sweet dark red fruits. Not at the level of complexity I'd expect from something rated this high. But it's definitely a good brew.
