Notes from March 2011 Half-sized growler from New Beer. Ommegang anniversary glassware. All the corned beef is long gone. Go easy on the cabbage please. Pours with barely a tickle of off-white head. A dazed-looking orange amber. Smell is big on ethanol, leather, caramel, & a faint mishmash of dark fruit. This one really needed to warm up before I got anything significant. Taste is bittersweet, twiggy, & tannic. Sweetened black tea, leather, bushy greens, & a dry biscuit grain backend. Not all that bitter actually. Bit oxidized. Tastes a tad watered down, but easier to pronounce. Alcohol isn't as much a factor as I thought it would be. Carbonation could definitely use some work, but that's on the draft system, not Stoudt's. At least it's not syrupy. Decent mellow flavor. Fill wasn't too bad(I believe it was somewhere around $8). Easier to reach for then some of the overly sweet things you see in the English BW category on BA.

Pretty unassuming for a barley wine, very subtle. Sweet malty aroma, pour is normal for the style, malty taste, little warmth.

Bottle thanks to Toby. Pours out amber topped with a tan head. Nose is a little old caramel sweetness malts and some malts. Taste is more of the sweetness caramel toffee malts.

2007 vintage, in a green bottle? Strange. Poured a copper color with a small tanned head. Aroma was subdued toffee and malts. Flavor was mellowed malts, with some caramel notes to it. Very smooth and pretty easy to drink after 5 years.

A hazed dark amber barley wine with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, faint British hops, OK. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light licorice, warming alcohol, grassy hops, an average barley wine. On tap at R&H, June 30, 2012.

Draft at Paradiso Georgetown. Certainly a very malty beer, but great balance. Mouthfeel is chewy. Good stuff.

Pours clear copper with microscopic tan head. The aroma is malty to caramel sweet to go along with some raisins, prunes and a mild level of pine hops. The taste is neutral to start and then moves into sweetness with sweet sugary malts, prunes, raisins and figs. It seems to thin out a bit by midway with more dark fruitiness and brown sugar. Tasty stuff.

courtesy of ibrew2or3. Pours copper with white head. Aroma is malty, with a honey like nose, hops overly sweet and light malts. Taste, malty, light touch of brown sugar and caramel, smooth with a fruity after taste and hoppy finish.
