Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

2008 vintage bottle at Brouwers. Pours a light orange with a slightly sour citrus aroma. A lot of citrus flavors with a really nice orange spice. This beer to my suprise has aged really well. Solid beer. Get it while you can.

750mL bottle at Brouwer's Cafe, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out Belgian yeast, some peach-like fruity notes, and some farmhouse notes. Flavour brings out notes of oxidation, with cardboard, some light fruity notes, floral notes and faint farmhouse notes. This one is obviously on its way down, with noticeable oxidation. Wish I had this a few years earlier. With that said, this is still a solid farmhouse beer.

Bottle shared by someone on the party bus, thanks! Pours a cloudy yellow color with a medium white head. A big nose of banana and dust. The flavor is ripe citrus, farmhouse notes, banana esters, very dry and dusty. Nice.

2008 Bottle via Footbalm - thanks Eric. First glass pours a clear golden color with an inch of bubbly white head. Lots of bubbles. Nose is fresh and clean. Spicey florals, grassey, malts, and straw. Very approachable scent. The mouthful is smooth and full-bodied. A little fruit comes forth, seems like apples. A little more straw, some grain, florals, and grass. Maintains a nice malty sweetness and the apple stays in the mix. Some florals bitters. Works well together and very good overall.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of wheat, lemon, and spices, medium notes of Belgian yeast and light notes of wheat. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of lemon, wheat, yeast, and lemon zest, as well as medium notes of spices, and light notes of coriander and malt, leading to a lightly bitter finish. I gave it 3.6 at the brewery and 3.1 in a blind tasting - this rating is sort of an average of the two.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Cloudy blond color. Strange aroma, lemony, a bit spicy, with some malt and plastic. Dry and lean mouthfeel, spicy wheat character, with too much final bitterness. Uninteresting.
