Our Christmas Ale is a warming winter ale that blends the spices of the season with sweet caramel malt. The inspiration for this beer comes from spiced holiday beverages such as wassail and mulled wines. Around the holidays, the sweet and spicy aromas are the perfect compliment for enjoying each other’s company and spreading goodwill!

12oz bottle at Brickskeller. Filtered amber-orange. Spells straight up like a Pumpkin beer, lots of spice. Really mellow for the ABV. Smooth malty tones. Cinnamon pumpkin tones, but maybe its the orange peel. Pretty nice, despite the pumpkin ale smell, remains a solid beer.

Nice clear deep amber with a white head. Aroma has nice spices, citrus zest, and an underlying caramel malt. Flavor had a bit of orange zest, light citrus, light spice, and slight hops. A really nice, noticeably spicy, ale. Enjoyable.

Draft. Poured a medium-dark golden color with a medium sized head. Aroma has citrus, notes of pine, malts. Flavor is heavy on the orange, with notes of holiday spices and a touch of candy.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear orangish-amber color with a medium frothy head. Fair head retention and lacing. Big orange and clove in the aroma with some caramel and toast and some floral hops. The taste is caramel, toasted malts, citrus, clove, cinnamon, cherries. Faintly bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer. Christmasy indeed.

Draft at Churchkey. Clear dark golden color, huge beige head with poor retention. Aroma of Christmas fruitcake. Taste is a strange mixture of licorice, peppermint candy, chocolate, pine and citrus. Mediocre.

bottle - Pours light amber and has an aroma of spices, orange, and malt. The flavor is sweet and spicy with distinctly caramel malt. I can definitely notice some of that 8% abv but it’s not a strong alcohol flavor and it works. This medium to full bodied brew has a touch of hops and makes for a nice winter warmer.

bottle thanks to Keir, pours carmel brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is brown sugar and clove. Flavors are nice with gingerbread and sweet candied sugar with a lightly clove spiced finish.

12oz 2008 Vintage scored via extra in a trade. Pours a translucent, muddy, copper amber with a creamy, lacing, slightly off white head. Smells like a christmas cookie, ginger, cake icing, sweet, cookie dough, grains, spices, nutmeg. Flavor starts like a beer (grains, caramel, toast, crackers) and ends like a christmas cookie (nutmeg, caramel, cake icing, ginger). Smooth mouthfeel, a little lingering sweetness. For a Christmas beer I really liked it.

Thanks again to Acknud for this bottle. Nice copper color with a decent beige head. Aromas of orange and clove. Near medium body with frothy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is orange zest and clove to me. There’s a roasted malt backbone. Finishes with something tending towards bitter that might be hop. Sort of a lighter version of the style. Quite tasty.

Vibrant opaque amber. No head. Light malt and light spice on the nose. Balanced, herbal character with a spicy finish. Good malt signature. Nice balance.
