Tap at BBC. Black with an oily beige head. Cocoa chocolate milk aroma. Mildly rich chocolate taste, not unlike the overbearing sugariness of a Milk Stout. Some burnt coffee. Oily, standard, weak for the style.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet coffee, chocolate, raisin, and bourbon. Flavor is sweet, chocolate, bourbon, caramel, slightly smoky. Somewhat watery.

Bottle. Cocoa malt aroma with a hint of bourbon. Dark brown color with thin head. Sweet milk chocolate malt and oak flavor with a very light bourbon finish. Body on the light side. Smooth, easy drinking beer but not much bourbon aroma or flavor.

Out of the bottle. Slight coffee on a somewhat subdued nose. Deep brown with some red highlights. Tan head. Booze on the nose starts to appear. Chocolate and roast dominate. A little too much roast. Hides the high ABV well.

Wickedly disappointing bottle, perhaps the weakest version of a bourbon barrel-aged stout I’ve come across. The beer pours thin, with a slight nose that has no liquor on it and barely any stouthood. Tastes bitter and burnt, some chocolate and coffee notes, but the coffee has an acidic bent that is wholly unwanted in a good coffee beer. No signs of bourbon. None. And the oak-aging has minimal effects, if any. Drinks like a fancy beer for the BMC set.

12oz bottle from Chuck’s poured into an English Pint. Pours black with a thin ring of tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, some coffee and chocolate and a little bit of smoke. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. Nice whisky taste with a little bit of chocolate and a nice aftertaste of coffee. Medium bodied with a pretty thin texture. Lively carbonation, too lively. A long coffee-bitter finish. Overall, not too bad. I wish I knew the ABV on this guy because there is some nice alcohol warmth after every sip. I would drink it again gladly.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled Dec 2010. Pours pitch black color with an instant 3 finger than head with great retention that reduces to a nice lacing cap that lasts. Some moderate lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of dark fruits, roasted malt, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and some chocolate and coffee in the background. Some interesting and bourbon forward aromas here. Taste of big oak, bourbon, and roasted malts on the front, that leads to chocolate, vanilla, and light coffee on the finish. A bit of bitterness on the finish with lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and a bit of bourbon. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a nice creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, not too bad. This was pretty enjoyable.
