Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a inky black body and minimal head. Aroma of licorice, tar, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is alcohol, toffee, bitter, coffee grounds and earthy. Lively bubbles for an old and big imperial stout.

Bottle courtesy of ryan - thank you sir! Nearly black, medium tan head, great lacing. Aroma of espresso that’s been left on the burner for too long, chocolate, prunes. Taste starts with sweet cocoa, progresses to bitter coffee, dates, raisins. Interesting and complex.

Sampled from the bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured black with medium brown head. Aroma was full of roasted malts and coffee that meshes nicely with the underlying bourbon note. Flavor began full of roasted malts and finished with coffee, dark chocolate and bourbon.

Bottle from Styles - part of a great trade. Pours dark black with a slight tan head. Aromas of dark malts and dark fruits. More than full bodied. Mild carbonation. Flavor is dark malt, treacle and medicinal herbs. Coffee shows up in the finish. Chocolate eventually. Startling. Excellent.

I think I got this via last years Secret Santa. If so, thank you Saint Nick. 12oz bottle pours a viscous, oily, opaque black with a very thin, bubbly tan head. Legs down the side of the glass like a fine scotch. Aroma is strong but doesn’t beat you over the head, toast, roasted grain, raisions, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, molasses. Flavor is very strong on the brown sugar, chocolate, slight coffee, toast, very heavy raisin, vanilla, bourbon, booze, molasses, nuts, you name it really. I was surprised at how drinkable this was, easy on the tongue for 12% alcohol but still very complex. Sweet and bitter on the end, thick and oily. A real treat. I wish I had a case. Bells really knows how to do their stouts.

Some generous porter drinker made this beer available to sample at the weekly tasting. Thank you sir, may your cup of porter runneth over. Pours deep dark with thin dark tan head. The smell is hot as hell booze followed by caramel, roast, molasses and hints of maltiness. Wow, pretty darn hot nose burning alcohol (is it still too young?). The taste elicits another wow response to pure triple layered yumminess. I get a thick chewy velvety fudgy mouth feel that feels oh so right. Notes of blended creamy malts, chocolate, molasses and caramel have come together in velvety harmony. Holy cow. This is fudgy yummy chocolaty, rich and delicious. It gets caramel, fudge and dark roastiness into the finish.

Sample at O-town throwdown ’09 Last sample of this amazing tasting and what a way to end it. Pours deep black with beige head and nice viscous golden lacing. Aroma lots and lots of dark fruits with a good boozy scent that dissipates together with roasted malts and chocolate. Taste, boozy boozy, this is one juggernaut beer goodness. Plenty of dark fruits, malty with touch of sweet licorice and chocolate.

12oz bottle. My Rating 1900#. Trade. Thanks Chris. Pours pitch black with a small stable creamy brown head & thick lacings. Nose is of dark fruits & roasted malts - a lot of chocolate. Palate is like velvet - smooth, creamy, thick, soft & wonderful(l) Taste has wood, vanilla, chocolate & coffee. Alcohol is very well hidden & pleasant! This is a masterpiece! Now I cant wait to taste the Expidition stout in the fridge!

Thanks Santa! Pretty darn intense! Very dark garnet black, large brown head. Lots of lacing. Heavy and pungent roast, acrid black malt and soy sauce aroma and flavor. There’s some deep earthiness and maybe just a touch of fruitiness. A bit over the top.
