Major thanks to Pailhead for sending me this as a bonus! Thanks Kevin! This is my 500th rating! Nearly black pour with a dark brown fairly quickly receding head. Aroma is strong coffee, chocolate, raisins and alcohol. Taste is very bitter coffee, chocolate, hops and raisins. Sticky mouthfeel. A little odd, but in a good way.

Bottle at ZBF 08, thanks to Miketd for this one. Thick toffee aroma. Along with everything else you would expect from an impy stout. It’s a lot of hops. A bit too sweet and thick. I am not really a fan of Bells and this doesn’t really change my mind. Still, pretty competent.

ZBF 2008 on the Saturday, this was shared out to us ratebeerians by the very generous Miketd, cheers Mike! Bacon was on the aroma as so accurately spotted by Phil L, but also some smokiness and roasted nuts. Intensely bitter but backed with much sweetness. The bitterness coats ones tongue and stays there for some time, some coffee flavours as well. I liked this but I’m glad that I had a smallish sample as any more and I may have found it just a bit too much for me.

Bottle from Tytoanderso - Thanks! Dark brown pour with a large cinnamon colored head and stunning lacing. Nose is rich with roastiness, cocoa, molasses, and dark fruits. Flavor is again rich with sweet dark fruits and molasses, roasted malt, vanilla, dark chocolate, and hints of mocha. Nice creamy mouthful and a great warming affect. Simply beautiful. I wish I had an Expedition on hand to compare with...

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a little dark brown head. Dark roasted malt, coffee, liqourice and bourbon like aroma. Clear alcohol presence. Lovely blend of liqourice and chocolate in thick oily blend. Minor citric fruit note. Alcohol does shine through. Very strong bitterness. Very strong brew.

Bottle from cbkschubert; Thanks Craig! Nose of raisins, chocolate, molasses, and coffee; dark black with a ring of cinnamon tan bubbles; flavor shows lots of strong, bitter coffee, chocolate, and licorice. Thick body with a nice hop finish.

Thanks to Badgerben for sharing. This an excellent imperial stout in the English style. Aroma has some alcohol but not overwhelming at all. There is also malt, fruit, and a port aroma. Thick, black, and syrup-like on the palate. Sweet, fruity malt with chocolate, but I am happy to perceive no coffee in this beer. More port, and some tobacco in the finish.

Bottle (@ D’dorf Gathering): Very dark amber coloured, small reddish-brownish foamy layer; roasted malt, liquorice in the nose with a strong coffeeish bitterness; very robust bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; distinctive coffeeish finish with a heavy touch of molasses and a lingering heavy (burnt-)malty-bitter finish. Worth a detour........
