A banging Imperial Stout brewed with prunes, vanilla, and habanero chillies.

Taste: Dark chocolate and dried prunes come out first, followed by a strong Turkish coffee and stewed blackcurrant jam. Vanilla supports, followed by a long, lingering — BÄNG — from the chilli. Just enough to shock your tastebuds and leave you wanting more.

Shared bottle. Pours almost black with a tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, some roasted malt. Taste follows nose with some soy sauce, prunes. Lots of vanilla. Not detecting the habanero heat. Finish is quite sweet, likely from the vanilla/prune combo, but still pretty good overall.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention bubbles and recedes to hug rim. Chocolate and licorice aromas. Thick with milk chocolate, licorice, prunes and soy upfront turning to warming pepper and cafe americano in the lasting sweet syrupy finish.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. Black as night, brown head. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, pralines, some dark fruits, roasted malts. Flavour is very sweet, roasted malts, chocolate, pralines, vanilla, prunes, just light smoke, brown sugar, some light chili heat in the finish. Full bodied, thick, smooth. Very sweet but so good it doesn't bother me, and I was in the mood for something sweet. Great beer.

Bottle shared with mum and dad, Bonfire Night, 5th November 17. Pours black and vicious. Aroma is rich, sweet prune juice, liquorice, molasses. Taste is smooth, sweet, prune, molasses, liquorice, a hint of chilli in the finish, I could have done with more to cut through the sweetness, but overall a decadent and complex impy.

330 ml bottle into snifter, best before 3/8/2020. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, toffee, molasses, nuttiness, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, cherry, prune, chili pepper, tobacco, smoke, and roast/toasted earthiness. A touch of booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla; light prune, pepper, and fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, toffee, molasses, nuttiness, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, cherry, prune, chili pepper, tobacco, smoke, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast/char bitterness and pepper spice on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, toffee, molasses, nuttiness, toasted dark bread, licorice, dark fruit, tobacco, chili pepper, smoke, roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla; light prune, pepper, and fruity yeast flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is insane. Touch of slickness; minimal chalky roast, spice stickiness, or dryness. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a slightly increasing warmth of 12.5% and pepper heat. Overall this is an amazing spiced imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla; light prune, pepper, and fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV; with the mildly bitter/spicy finish. Huge on vanilla and dessert character. Not as much pepper or prunes as I hoped for; but the rich complexity of this stout is simply mind blowing. Amazingly well balanced and never acrid/astringent on roast. A highly amazing offering.

Level 42 Bottleshare. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Smooth palate, a little viscous. Rich dark chocolate malts, rich malt cream. Nice vibrant dark fruits. Chilli kicks in but never dominates or irritates. Touches of Port wine and Brandy. Smooth finish leaves a mild chilli linger. Very nice.

330ml bottle. Jet black oily pour, no head. Rich, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of Mexican chocolate sauce, a fruity touch of plum butter, some caramel. Taste is sweet, chocolately dark malty, fruity and peppery spicy, notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, plum butter, plum wine, hints of vanilla and cinnamon, some chili, very cautious smoky overtones; double warming peppery spicy and minimally alcoholic finish. Viscous texture, creamy and slightly sticky palate. Superbly balanced, not overdone, neither too sweet nor too spicy. Perfect sipper (not only) for the Advent season.
