A thirst quenching session beer, Sour Suzy mimics a classic German brewing technique (sour mashing) to impart a light, refreshing tartness. No hop bitterness and very low hop profile, Sour Suzy is not your typical session beer - rather it delivers something a bit more obscure and intriguing. It drinks as refreshingly as a glass of lemonade. The grain bill includes a healthy portion of wheat, while citrusy hops lend bright notes to the aroma, which is accentuated by the addition of Makrut lime leaves.

330ml bottle. Slightly milky, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small, frothy, fading, white head. Lemonade-like aroma, hints of lemon juice and mild sauerkraut, a touch of lime. Taste is tart, slightly dry, citrusy, notes of lemon juice, a touch of sauerkraut. Narrow, monotonous, slightly boring.

Bottle. Opaque palest yellow. Brief fizzy head. No lacing. The aroma is lactic sourness and fruity hops. Light body. Thin to oily. Light sour taste starting with typical lactic approach and transforming into lemony tartness later. New world hops are constantly perseptible. Low zesty bitterness on ending. It’s just OK.

Can from the Biergarten, Wolverton, MK. The colour, transparency and carbonation of cream soda. Sour milk, horse blanket, pie crust, some very muted citrus aroma. Refreshing sourness with a welcome citrus bite. Very little trace of funk in the taste. Thin body but it’s appropriate for this beer. Applesauce in the finish. A subtle but fairly effective little beer.

Tap at Before 9. Lervig's Sour Suzy 4% Berliner Weisse A pale cloudy straw gold with a tart coozy sour aroma, I'm thinking kettle soured. Light bodied and dry. The taste is better than I expected, soda bread graininess, lactic acidic lemon but also a redeeming sweet character that helps balance and mellow it out. It makes for a smooth drinking sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Nose is salty, sour wheat, lemon, vegetables. Taste is moderately sour, with lemon, wheat, hint of green apple, mineral. Very light, very bland. As Lervig beers seem to become more available, I am finding more I am not bothered about.
