Bottle, fairly old, 2 month out of that but kept in good condition. Pours dark orange. Nose very is sweet, citrus, orange, apricot. Palate has lost some of its spark, has gotten pretty sweet, some orange. Bitter finish. Has turned out quite alright.

IPA from one of these still very rare internationally oriented German craft breweries, repeating on its back label the old IPA myth of massively hopping pale ales in order to make them ’survive’ long and perilous journeys over sea. Only a month and a half before its "best before" date so probably already past its prime. Slow gushing but manageable, with careful opening I managed not to lose a drop. Frothy, initially inches thick, egg-white, dense head slowly thinning to a closed, moussy layer of foam while leaving behind a trail of irregular lacing; lightly hazy old gold robe with warm orangey hue, made more hazy by tons of translucent floaters throughout from the start, becoming more of an ’old orange’ and completely clouded in the end. Aroma of stale and spoilt lime juice, moldy orange peel, some spritzy grapefruit zest, withering flowers, old pickled onions, something sharply and disturbingly sulfuric (burnt rubber) doubtlessly related to yeast autolysis, much fainter hints of mandarin, spoilt cucumber flesh, fried egg, warm toast, minerals, chlorine, fresh green algae - in all, clearly faded over time and further ruined by inappropriate dead yeast releasing off-flavours which overpower whatever is left of the New World hop fragrance, a pity considering the hops that went in here. Crisp onset, restrained but clean fruitiness with some red apple, dried pineapple and green banana, vaguely sweetish with a somewhat more expressive sourish ’green plum’ touch but everything a bit subdued, edged by a notable mineral effect, as in heavily mineralized sparkling water. Crisp, supple, light mouthfeel though with the carbonation a bit on the sharp side for the style; some salty accents from ’old’ hops here and there, accompanying a smooth pale malt sweetish, cereally core with a light biscuity accent. Meanwhile the hop bitterness builds up, accentuating the minerally factor and becoming quite strong, drying and quinine-like in the end, sticking to the back of the mouth but not too extendedly so. This hop bitterness shows a very pleasant spicy character in the mouth, but little of the lush citrusy retronasal effects I tend to expect from the style, even if classically ’West Coast’ in concept like this one, just something vaguely old citrus peel- and more clearly old herb-like. Needs to be consumed very fresh I assume, the best before date should have been a lot earlier than June 2017, as I can imagine this being a lot better when fresh, especially with other CREW Republic IPA’s in mind, which were considerably more gratifying. But even at this age, no IPA should carry such an amount of dead yeast, which due to autolysis has produced a sulfuric smell here which is not only off-putting as such, but also covers the remainders of the hops in the nose. Flavor-wise still pretty much okay though, juicy and drying at the same time, with a firm dosis of hops without becoming too harsh.

Shared bottle at Arne and Ulrike’s. Pours hazy amber with off-white head. Aroma of citrus, cat piss, peaches, tropical fruits. Tastes bitter with some sweetness. Thin bodied, bitter finish.

Bottle. Clear golden-orange. Huge lovely head. Lots of lacing. Aroma of peaches, citrus fruits, honeydew melon and pine. Taste is fruity (oranges, peaches and lemons) and malty, honey and pine. Long lasting aftertaste is hoppy bitter. Low to medium carbonation. Nice.

0.33l bottle. Hopy aroma, citruses, tangerine, resin. Hazy golden color with orange shades, white head. Hopy taste, citruses, orange, light resin, medium bitter. Medium body, slick texture, soft carboation and dry bitter finish.

330 ml bottle, served in tulip. Pours pale orange golden. Floral, mango and orange smell. Mango and passion fruit aroma. Hoppy bitter taste, slightly metallic and smoky taste. A bit sweetness. Soft carbonated. Oily texture, medium body. Nice!

330 mml bottle tasted on the 19/12/2016. Hazy amber colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma of fruity hops, malts and some caramel. Taste is more fruity than hoppy with a long malty finish. Next one please!
