Paul, who is still our Chairman, and in our eyes is warden of all things beer, founded the Brewery in 1992, fighting back against what he saw as a deluge of bland beer from mass corporations. The result was the creation of one of Britain’s favourite breweries and more than 100 jobs in the town of Masham.
Pathmaker will reach out to a wider drinking audience and tell the Black Sheep story in a modern and creative way. The beer is aimed at pubs and bars offering new and different beer brands to increasingly curious beer enthusiasts.
With its eye-catching hand drawn branding, Pathmaker is a 5.6% ABV pale ale, brewed with Chinook hops, with an adventurous malty mouth feel and a moreish, crisp bitter finish.

Cask at The Gate, Northwood. A straw coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, grapefruit aroma. Tastes vaguely hoppy, citrus, really bitter and not in the best condition as expected at an Ember Inn.

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy amber color with thin creamy white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of citrus, pine and flowers. Taste starts moderate sweet malty, follows by refreshing grapefruit, herbs and tropical fruit, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Joymaker...

Pours a slightly hazy golden color, topped with a quite big white foamy head, ok retention. Fruity hoppy notes, some sweet pears and peaches, slightly citrusy and lemony. Taste mildly bitter with some malty sweetness in the back. Some citrusy, lemony presence. QUite lasting medium aftertaste. Fairly light and fresh. Very lovely.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Clear gold lasting white head. Hoppy grapefruit. More or less your classic APA with a UK twist and a Black Sheep house character. Actually quite a lot of house character. Drank it real quick. Quite good fun.

Bottle from Trembling Madness. Appearance - golden amber with a fluffy lacy head. Nose - orange with some dirty malt. Taste - bitter orange and dry citrus on the finish. Palate - close to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a fairly balanced finish. Overall - didn’t start well, but improved a little.
