Bottle shared at Leighton’s place. 7/1/2015. Many thanks to Paul / Rene for this one. opaque black coloured pour with a lasting dark tan head. Aroma is smoky earthy roast, coffee bean, woody mineral. Flavour is sweet and sour, chocy, tart berry, black forest gateau, salty, umami, tangy bitter coffee. Palate is very frothy, highly carbonation, mineral, salty. I like it.

Bottle split at LKS, thanks to Bropey and Rene, 07/01/16. Black with a decent tan covering. Nose is treacle toffee, spice, chocolate, biscuit. Taste comprises peppery spice, liquorice, chocolate, treacle toffee. Medium + bodied, prickly carbonation, semi drying close. Ok impy, drinks below the ABV, shame about the over carbonation.

Bottle big thanks to Rene. It pours jet black with a thick, foamy tan head. The nose is rich roast, bitter - sweet, dark chocolate, chocolate ice cream rocky road, dried cherry and toasted brown sugars. The taste is bitter, hard roast, a bit acidic upfront, coffee grounds, earth, cacao nibs, quite dry and some jammy dark fruits with a dry, roasted finish. Medium + body and high carbonation. Aroma is rather nice. Taste is a touch acidic and carbonation a bit too high. Good fun though. I will compare this to the test batch of this when I find my notes!

Bottle shared in London - congrats, Rene! Pours black with a dense, creamy mocha head. Strong ashy roast in the aroma, some old leather, dark fruits. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with sugary dark fruits, cocoa, char, scorched earth. Full bodied with average to lively carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly chalky, with baking cocoa, gooey dark fruits. Nice beer.

33 cl bottle @home, from the man himself, thanks René! Pours pitch black, like motor oil. Big, rocky light brown head, with pretty good retention. Aroma’s of roasted malts, dark berries, ground coffee, dark chocolate. Retronasal more fruits, some sourness, roast, coffee. Flavor is moderate sour, roasted, light sweet, chocolate-y. Medium bodied. Good carbo. Finish is full of roast and chocolate. Not sure about the sour notes, reading from the other ratings, but it’s not really off-putting.

Pours pitch black with a thick brown head. Aroma of cocoa, roasty malts, hints of coffee, chocolate and mild hints of earthiness. Taste is smooth, roasty and heavy with loads of salty licorice, cocoa, dark chocolate, hints of espresso and syrup. Finish is roasty, heavy and earthy with loads of roastiness, hints of burnt rubber and licorice. Okay.
