"As others have done before me I also thought that brewing my own beer would be a nice way to celebrate this milestone of beer rating. After rating 10000 beers I can say that, while it continues to change slightly, my favourite styles are (Imperial) IPA and Imperial Stout. In order to be able to enjoy this beer for a longer period of time I chose to brew an Imperial Stout rather than an (Imperial) IPA. The intention was to brew a full bodied, roasty imperial stout with hints of coffee and chocolate. All parties involved have agreed that if that’s not the case, I am the one to blame ;) Huge thanks to Colin (dEnk) / 8-Bit for creating a recipe with me and brew a testbatch. Thanks André (Dutchdrebus) for creating the label. And last but certainly not least: huge thanks to Erwin & Jaap from Van Moll for going out of their way for me to make this happen. Bottle at the October Christmas at The Garvie’s tasting. Pours clear dark brown with a thick tan head. Aromas of roast coffee, tar, liquorice. Taste is rich, tarry, dark chocolate, some cherry. Roasty finish.

Bottle at Danish Ratebeer Summer Gathering 2015, Ulfborg. Pours very dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of licorice, fudge, roast, coffee, dark chocolate and toffee. Flavour is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Rich tasting. Roasted malt bitterness and sweet finish. There’s a fruity kind of tang to this one.

Draft sample @ Van Moll fest 2015, Eindhoven. Cheers to you René! Brune foncée, col crémeux léger café au lait. Arôme offre une présente notable de malts, le tout tire dans des tons grillés et chocolatés mais restant cependant assez habituel de grands stout impériaux. Palais est malté avec une prépondérance pour le chocolaté et grillé. Le tout demeure cependant assez terreux,sec voire poussiéreux. Pointe d’amertume sur la fin laissant percer les houblons - fruité citronné fin. Le tout garde un profil collant aux lèvres.

Sampled draft @ Van Moll Fest 2015. Very dark brown, blackish, small white head. Nose is cacao powder, cacao puffs, chocolate which feels a touch artificial, a touch thin. Taste is a bit herbal, cacao powder, almost a hint vegetable, vanilla, sweetish, licorice & touch molasses. Body is herbal & touch thin. Rather odd but okay beer. A good starting point for Benzai’s 20k beer.

Bottle Frothy White fair mostly deminishing head. Black colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Some roast. MOderate bitter flavor. Nice roast and chocolate. Long moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate.

Bottle @ Danish Ratebeer Summer Gathering, 2015. Pours black with a small bubbly head. Roast, ashes, licorice, salty and burnt. Ashy bitter finish. Low carbonation - flat. Warming alcohol. Congrats Benzai!

Bottle, 9%. very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, hop and liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, liquorice, medium sweet, caramel, little salt liquorice and medium bitter.
