Limited series of long time barrel aged beer.

Sometimes even a craft beer brewer gets lucky.

When aging beers in barrels there are for many reasons now and then " forgotten" barrels. These beers might have spend up to two years in the barrel. When finally finding the time to crack open these barrels you have drain-pour most of the time. But if lady Fortuna likes you a lot, you might find a hidden and almost forgotten treasure. It’s these rare and special beers that we cannot drink all by ourselves, and therefore have decided to share with our most appreciated customers. These batches of special beers are too small to develop as a new brand, but will be categorized under the name " Memoires".

"Memoire" I will be a blend of 1/3 Finesse , aged for two years, and 2/3 L’Ensemble, aged for 13 months. Both were aged on 2nd use whiskey barrels. The beer inside the barrels has maderized and portorized to perfection.

"Memoire" 1 will hopefully be a beer to be remembered on those rare quiet self-reflecting moments that we all need now and then. Cheers!

Backlog Nov 21. 500 ml bottle, bach 1. Amber-brown body, with a medium, beige head. Aroma of toffee, dried fruits, apricot, chocolate, butterscotch, wood. Tastes quite similar, while with more creamy chocolate. Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes quite sweet, astringent, a bit boozy, with toffee and some dried fruits. Very nice. Pretty malt-forward, quite sweet, while still well balanced. Alcohol is noticeable towards the finish, but not too overpowering. Smooth sipper. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 15

0,5l bottle at home shared by Saeglopur, big thanks. Batch 1. gusher. brown color, small off white head. smells dried fruits, marzipan, candy, spices, bit sourish, raisins, figs, light oxidation notes. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation. tastes of dried fruits, figs, raisins, marzipan, spices, light sweetness, some underlying soured fruity notes. finishes lightly sweet with notes of figs, raisins and some dried fruits. pretty nice one, bit weird, not a classic old ale, underneath the sweetness some fruity sourness going on. not totally my thing. but rather drinkable.

50cl bottle share courtesy of Tderoeck @ Smoker bbq party. BB 12/2018.

Blended barrel aged beer by Dochter van de Korenaar, shared by Nelson at Gents Bierfestival, cheers. Apparently barrel aged Finesse (a tripel) mixed with dito Ensemble (a quad), aged together for a second time on whisky barrels. Irregular, pale beige, stable head, hazy bronze robe with mahogany hue. Lovely and rich bouquet of dried peaches, lots of vanilla-ish wet oak wood, butterscotch, old dried chestnuts, old red wine, pear, sherry, whisky, dried figs, ’boerenjongens’. Fruity onset, peachy, dried banana slices, fig, cranberry, sweetish with a sourish touch but neither exaggerated, soft carbo, full and bit oily, rich mouthfeel. Deeply nutty and toffeeish maltiness, luscious and rounded, dried in the end by oaky tannins and a lot of them, paired with an elegantly sherryish and liqueurish alcohol warmth. ’Old ale’ only in the literal sense, not so much in the traditional English sense, but admittedly there are certain parallels (blending and aging are key elements in traditional English old ale) so I won’t bother too much about style classification in this case. Highly recommended in any case, makes me look forward to the second one in this limited series of deliberately old beers...

Red brown colour. Aroma is slightly yeasty and funky. Flavour has some syrupy sweet red fruit sugars. Sweetish but not sticky.
