Corked bottle. Dark brown color. Chocolate, grapefruit and especially melon in the somewhat vinous aroma. Firm hopbitter flavor with lots of melon. Some oak in the background. Sweet and very fruity. Hints of claret and grapefruit. Licorice, chocolate and toffee. Very complex and delicious. layers of flavors but no alcohol. Well integrated mix of beers.

Bottle sampled at Kaapse Secret Thingy. Murky brown with almost no head. Quite some barrel, vanilla, marzipan, oak, cardboard, sweet malts, old fruits. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied. Bit past it’s prime maybe.

Cloudy dark brown beer. Complex nose of soft hops and a little chocolate. Softish palate, pretty low carbonation. Soft but rich hops. Spritzy orange marmalade, not bitter. A little aniseed alcohol presents early. The hops then cycle through grassy and spicy before fading in to subtle pear. The malt kicks in with subtle chocolate and a little brandy, somewhat barleywine like. Rich and complex beer, it finishes with hop fruit and malt richness. Semi dry finish. Moderately bitter aftertaste.

Draught at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö
Cloudy dark brown color, with a generous and creamy head, persistent. What surprises the most is the bitter oranges aroma, with a hint of caramel and tobacco. Strong body; strong caramel flavor and quite good chocolate too, with medium sweetness; light woody vanilla; there is some more darker caramel in the end; but the fruity edge is present again, and it doesn’t blend well with the rest. For being a sweet - strong - hopped - malty beer, it’s pleasant to drink, but it’s also chaotic; it’s difficult to find a purpose.

Bottle in Rome during The Stag Do. Has a hoppy nose with some roast. Moss and pine. Pretty sweet, strong flavor, dark roast malts, booze, sugar, faint cocoa. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warm finish, boozy, malty sugars, some lingering sticky hops. Great beer, pretty dynamic.

12/11/11/13//11
