NEON is a Brut IPA of 7% ABV, brewed in collaboration with Brasserie de L’Ermitage from Brussels and Garage Beer Co from Barcelona in Spain. It is part of a special six-pack of beers—the Noble Gas Project—created with twelve other breweries to celebrate the third birthday of Siphon Brewing. Working with Siphon Brewing on the recipe and process beforehand and attending on brewday were Nacim Menu, François Simon and Henri Ben Saria from Brussels brewery L’Ermitage and Owen Ashmore from Garage Beer Co in Barcelona. NEON showcases the bright and juicy tropical fruit notes of the Ekuanot, Mosaic and Amarillo hop varieties used in late addition and dry-hop, with a bone-dry attenuation and crisp carbonic bite.

29/VIII/19 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 25/VII/20 - (2019-1330)

Clear blond beer, creamy irregular dense off-white head, stable, bit adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: tropical fruits, nice, some citrus, bit malty, some onions, hint of grapefruit, sulphur, soapy. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter, bit soapy, weird, is it them enzymes that taste so weird? Just not a big fan of most Brut IPA's. Hints of cucumber, dry, bit sourish. Aftertaste: malty, grains, hay, bitter, not very convincing. Weird.

29 June 2019. At Siphon 3d Birthday Party, Damme. Cheers to Anke, Erwin & Ama Deke! Clear pale golden with a lasting, thick, foamy, white head. Aroma of passionfruit, mandarin, lemon zest, pear, kiwi, yellow apple, cheese, some butter (diacetyl, especially when warming up). Taste is light fruity sweet & sour, notes of pear, passionfruit & mandarin on a slick honey-like, bready malty base, bitter touches of grass, apple peel, grapefruit, becoming more apparent in a dry, floral hoppy finish, lingering sourness of young mandarin, apple & lactic acid. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, soft carbonation. Slick, drinkable 'Brut' but a point off for the butter note.

Clear golden beer, finely carbonated to a just yellowish tinted small head. Cheesy, asafoetida hops' nose. Bit lactic, I'd say, parsley, citrus (lime, orangepeel). Again this strange cheesy, nearly insectoid flavour/aroma. Indeed dry character. Bit of pale malts, if very little sweetness. Not much going on. Dry, or put differently... empty (the maize?). Slick, wheatslick. This corners it. I've always considered Champagne the world's most overrated drink, and consistently disliked beers made in its image, brut. Here's no exception.
