From tap at The Trappist, Oakland. Black color with beige brown head. Roasted malty aroma, grain, bread, coffee, chocolate. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

1 finger espresso head. Pitch black. Aroma is sweet and overly roasted lots of coffee bean. The taste is loaded with chocolate. Just a ton of cocoa nibs. Super astringent roast. Like burnt coffee and I love it. It tingles the mouth. Loads of everything right with stouts. Nice. Please put this in a barrel

Draft at the brewery. Holy hell! Layers of dark roasted malt. Barley, dark chocolate, caramel and charred ash. The mouth feel is full and creamy, coats the tongue. The depth of malt is truly impressive. Is there lactose sugar in this stout?? Sweet but not cloying. Overall just deep and rich. Top tier no matter what coast you drink on.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is fairly roasty with a nice chocolate character. Some light tobacco and leather character. Light fruit esters. Pours black with a small, thick, dark mocha head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. Medium light lacing and medium legs. Flavor is fairly roasty with a nice chocolate note as well. Some tobacco and leather with a bit of some dried fruit esters. Moderate bitterness with some earthy hop notes and a bit of alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but one of my least favorite beers from SARA. A bit astringent and the malt character isn’t quite right for me; I think it finished too dry to balance all the malt character.

Tap. Pours opaque black, small creamy tan head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is quite roasty, ash, earthy. Flavor is quite light sweet, medium bitter, ashy, roasty, a bit of cocoa. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. My first non tart stout from Sara, and its a hit!
