Full malt body, higher bitterness, green hops. Special dark top-fermented beer.
Should not be confused with the usual bottom fermented beer with almost the same name, different yeast & hops !

Fruity, citrusy and piney with some hints of roastiness, toasted malts and sweetness, mild bitterness. A bit heavily carbonated but otherwise decent

Keg at the Brewpub in Day 1 of Fergus and Sarah’s Czech jaunt. 29/09/14. Fuck Yeah! Surprise Black IPA. Dark caramel coloured pour with ruby red highlights, lasting big light tan head. Aroma is melba fruit, peach, light tropical fruit and hint of roast and some orange peel. Flavour is composed of nice fruity peach & tropical fruit hop character, smooth base malts with hint of toasty malts. Palate is crisp, medium body, highish carbonation. Nice lingering pine and citrus hop. Pretty tasty.

On tap at Strahov. Didn’t actually plan to end up here again, but, when our tour guide took us by tram to the Old Town instead of the center, I couldn’t resist going here, taking some of my padawans with me. :D It seems like this week was pretty special, with a ton of seasonals being rereleasesd, something like that, but we ended up there on Sunday and almost everything was gone, including the IPA. This, however, wasn’t. Poured a dark brown body with a lasting small off white head. Sweetish aroma hops in the nose, oranges, jaffa cakes, liiiight bubblegum. Sweet mild fruity aroma hops nose (this has Mosaic & some others) fights with a lovely lean malty backbone and some fine roastiness, subtly herbal to boot. The fruitiness does win out in the end. Again, an insanely well crafted beer from this brewery... Good job Strahov, good job!

(tap 0,5l @ OP (Brno))
Aroma : Fruity, citrusy, hops.
Appearance : Opaque black color. Huge, light brown head.
Taste : Medium sweet, fruity, light roasted.
Palate : Full body. Creamy texture. Dry finish.
Overall : Nice. Seems a bit fuller and more roasted than the lager version.

Beergeek, Prague on 2nd Oct 2014. Two versions of this beer were on offer in KeyKegs. A lager and an ale option. I had both. The ale being very slightly sweeter but otherwise identical in my opinion. Dark mahogany brown in colour beer with good beige heads. Coffee aromas meet the nose with some yeast esters and dark red fruitiness. The Taste was again coffee first and foremost with a caramel sweetness tempered by those dark fruits from the aroma. Good start to the day and the long session I had in Beergeek (not the new bar, that only opened the following day).
