Bottle split at L42, thanks to Fergoose, 23/01/17. Light black with a decent tan head. Nose is chocolate, roast malt, dark fruit rinds, light spice, charr, toffee. Taste comprises chocolate, liquorice, hop presence, light coffee beans, black peppery spice, roast malts. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a nip of booze evident. Ok impy, well rounded if no wow factor, drinks well below it’s stated ABV.

Level 42 bottleshare. Thanks to Fergus. Clear deep brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is comparatively light and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Mildly creamy dark malts with a little roast bitterness. Mild dark chocolate and tangy dark fruits. Running throughout is a hard to pin down flavour of something like wonky coffee but more savoury than that, almost chicory but note quite. Finishes light and spicy with a trace of medcinal bitterness. Unusual. Could not decide if I liked it or not. Still can’t!

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours clear black-brown with a frothy, beige head. Charred malts in the nose, raisins, baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavour with strong ashy roast, hearty bittersweet dark chocolate, some dried berries. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with more ashy character, some vinous qualities, earth. Hearty stuff.
