A Belgian style blonde ale that gives one of the world's most awarded beers (and arguably the world's first craft beer) - Old Tom - a run for its money with a fresh recipe that combines Belgian yeast, and quintessentially English hops alongside European varieties for a fruity taste with a spicy clove tang.
Light and refreshing with a floral and herbal background, subtle aromas of banana and vanilla, and a smooth easy drinking malt character.

Bottle. Golden body, white head. Yeasty aroma, sweetish, some cloves, caramel. Dry taste, yeasty, pear, chewed up bubblegum, bit malty... Slighly sweetish, phenolic, corky. Okay stab at the style, nothing more, nothing less.

Bottle from Booths, Penwortham. Pours clear golden with a thick white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast, spice, clove, faint overripe banana. Taste is slightly boozy, more clove and bready malts. Clean finish with a spicy linger. Nice.

Bottle, 0.33l. Clear golden pour, thin white head. Quickly diminishing, poor retention. Minimal lacing on the glass. A bit stale on the nose, wet grass, cardboard, yeast. Traces of caramel. Thin to medium body, high carbonation. Fizzy mouthfeel, relatively thick texture. Bittersweet taste with bitterness dominating the palate. A bit unbalanced. Aroma is quite boozy, too much for 6% ABV. Belgian yeast, caramel, cloves. Peppery. Cardboard. Alcohol burn on the tongue. Stale hops. Acidic aftertaste, medium lasting finish, bitter. Overall, not so hot. Unbalanced and boozy. Mediocre at best.

330ml bottle. Clear, brass colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Wheaty and spicy yeasty aroma, hints of clove, a perfumed, herbal-floral touch. Taste is wheaty and spicy yeasty, notes of clove, a sweet-ish touch of banana, slightly perfumed, herbal-floral overtones. So-so.

Bottle. Nose is Belgian yeast, green hops, banana, cloves, vanilla, cereal. Taste is very sweet, pronounced vanilla, cream, herbal hops, banana sweets very short herbal finish. Mouthfeel is slick. A very disappointing beer, the nose is fine, if no great shakes, but it tastes sweet, too creamy, and has no depth at all. Given Duuvel was on the next shelf in most shops, it’s hard to imagine a circumstance when you would buy this twice.
