Slovenian stout from a can generously donated by Davor, cheers my friend! Moussy, pale yellow-beige, small-bubbled head lacing in dots over a black beer with thin mahogany edges. Aroma of ‘fondant’ chocolate (apparently Belgian chocolate was actually used here), walnut liqueur, sweet Brazil cigars, walnut shells, dry autumn leaves, nutmeg, whisky, coffee filters, dried porcini, acorns, touch of brown cardboard somewhere. Dryish onset, some dried fig but also dried porcini – mingling restrained sweetness with subtle umami and an underlying sourish tone; medium carb, full and oily body. Walnutty, bitter-chocolatey, toasty malts, more bitter than sweet with spicy bayleaf and nutmeg accents as well as a whiff of cigar tobacco; some tea-like hops provide extra spicy bitterness in then end, along with warming, whisky-like alcohol. Coffeeish roastiness nicely lingers. Old school strong stout in spite of the added chocolate and coffee and thus in spite of its pastry stout intentions, very well made and especially welcoming in a time dominated by overly sweet pastry stouts. Slovenia has pleasantly surprised me before and with this one, did so again!

Black with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour have some roasted, bitter coffee notes. Fine carbonation. Good but lacks a bit of punch, intensity.

Can in Riu Pravets - picked up from 100 Beers, Sofia. Pours oily black with a cascading, frothy mocha head. Dense, bittersweet, lots of ashy roast, baking cocoa, charred grass, scorched earth, dry, borderline astringent. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Warming finish, dry, ashy, bitter, more baking cocoa and thoroughly toasted malts. It’s a really punchy, toothy, old-school impy stout. Nothing pastry-like about this beer.

Can, thick oily pour, long lasting dense creamy brown head, pitch black color, coffee earthy aroma with some metalic undertones, flavor of bitter chocolate, coffee beans and something greenish, quite dry but with a touch of Sweetness, a bit of alcohol but not too heavy. Nice and interesting.
