Bottle shared at ChrisO. Picked up at House of Trembling Madness, York. It pours deep mahogany brown with a decent beige head. The nose is toasty, brown sugar, dried fruits, raisin, sugared plums, dates and smooth brandy. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, toasty, earth, brown bread, vinous, rich fruit cake, leather, wood, brown sugar, brandy and warming alcohol. Full body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Good depth. Really well-rounded and rather quaffable stuff. Much more drinkable than the name might suggest…

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, thanks to Paulo, 04/04/15. Interesting bottle ! Rich amber/dark orange with a decent beige covering. Nose is caramel, spice, dark fruit rinds, earthy, dates, sweet tunes. Taste comprises caramel, sweet’n’sour notes, trace of aniseed, fruit cake mix, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff, can’t say I picked up much in the way of the barrel ageing.

Bottle shared at chriso’s Easter 2015 tasting - London. Big thanks to Paul for this whale. Pours hazy amber with a creamy tan head. The nose holds ripe fruits, bread, berries, fruit leather and caramel. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with some alcohol kick, toffee, fruitcake, honey, bread. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warming finish with more honey, rich bread, ripe fruits. Good depth, very drinkable. Probably the biggest surprise of the tasting - this was a really great beer.
