Cask special for Wetherspoons International Real Ale Festival March 2015.
Jesse Houck has travelled to Adnams Brewery, in Suffolk, to brew this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This light-coloured pale ale has a light malt body, accentuated by its rich, spicy hop characteristics, while the addition of Mocha Sidamo Ethiopian coffee lends a floral fruit and berry nose.

Cask at Bishop Vesey; clear golden yellow pour with a creamy white head, roast malt aroma, taste has coffee, a hint of roast, some spice.

Cask at the Moon under water Watford Jdw. Clear light golden coloured pour with a fleeting thin white head. Aroma is really interesting, woody coffee bean, citrus and berry hop. Nice subtle fresh coffee bean on the nose. Flavour is composed of toasted coconut, coffee bean, hay, and tangy fruit in the finish. Palate is light, lowish carbonation, little sweetness..well brewed beer with really nice coffee character.

Cask handpull at Thomas Ingoldsby Canterbury jdw. Slight haze golden white head. Coffee aroma. Quite a bitter coffee aroma. for me it’s a car crash of a beer. No real off flavours just not sure coffee belongs in a pale ale.

Cask at the Tilly Shilling (JDW), Farnborough. Accompanied by a bacon roll to ensure that the breakfast aspects are properly explored. A bright straw pour with a thin white head; distinct berry fruit aroma - perhaps strawberry; soft and fruity in the mouth, but rather thin; and a dry finish with a touch of spice. Interesting that the coffee beans add so much fruit, and no coffee.

Cask at Archie’s ABZ. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is earthy, toasty, coffee beans, hay, wheetabix and grain. The taste is toasty, grainy, biscuit, oatcake, wheetabix, earthy, coffee and some floral notes with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. An interesting beverage for sure. Works for me, but doesn’t for Mrs Scopey. Consumed at breakfast as intended...
