A copper coloured, premium bitter with a mid-brown colour, malty aroma and a slightly sweet, toffee flavour which leads to a soft, bitter finish.

A little thin on the malt to complement the smokiness. Like all their beers, slightly off with the bitterness. London

Can from Beer52. Mahogany coloured with a moderate beige head and a middling fizz. The fruity aroma develops into stewed plums with chocolate and lightly roasted malts on the initial taste. Further swigs reveal light woodsmoke and honey roast ham, although these never overpower the other flavours. Itโ€™s generally sweetish, with mild dryness and sourness. At times maybe the slight sourness of those stewed plums is a little too evident, but generally itโ€™s a well-balanced tasty brew that suited bonfire night well.

330ml can. The beer has a nice smoky nose. Nice smoky chocolaty beginning with sourish hints. Refreshing with not too much depth. The smoke is there till the end, hints of dry caramel, moderate bitterness and slightly sourish chocolate. Very nice and easy to drink. The aftertaste is light, moderate smoky roasty, refreshing with a subtle sourness.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear, light brown with a frothy, tan head. Lightly tangy berries in the nose, hints of toasted malts and smoke. Medium sweet flavor with light smokey notes, accents of toffee, more tangy berries, plum. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with bready sugars, a little toast, berries, minimal bitterness, mellow smoke. Not bad overall.

Cask, on gravity at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol October 2015. Dark brown in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Toasty malts, a touch of liquorice, masses of smokiness and a dryish finish. A bit extreme for me.

Taste comprises fruit loaf, toasted brown sugar, earthy hop undercrackers, sweet malt, caramel, light smoke. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a subtle smokers jacket. Decent well balanced smoked porter.

Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet. A mahogany colour with a thin beige aroma; a subtle woodsmoke aroma; and a similarly gentle smoky taste with some coffee and Pontefract cake; then a dry, moreish finish. Rather thin, but nicely smoked.
