The Bastard has officially entered the building.

Arrogant Bastard Ale fans, rejoice. You’ve read it right, we are continuing our beer-fuelled exploits with Escondido’s Stone Brewing Co. This time, we’ve taken in what they have let loose into the world. Out on its own, after being heavily guarded for 17 years, The Arrogant Bastard has set its sights on those only worthy enough to take The Bastard on. BrewDog has adopted The Bastard from across the pond, to try our hand at concocting our very own, unashamedly superior and maddeningly tasty, one hell of a haughty 7.2% ABV Ale.

Brewdog Shepherds Bush. Keg. Clear deep amber - brown beer, small cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry. Smooth malts bring some dark character and mild grainy sweetness. Thin dry cream. Mild spice and mellow dark fruits. Spicy berries before a light dry finish. Spicy linger. Doesn’t quite sing but it’s fine.

Keg at Brewdog Soho, London. A dark ruby/red coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Malty, caramel, dark fruit aroma. Tastes similar, malty, caramel, dark fruit, slightly bitter. It was fine but I was expecting a lot more from this one.

Keg at Brewdog Shep bush. Nice deep reddy amber coloured pour with a lasting steadfast cream coloured head. Aroma is quite malty, nutty grains and toffee, toasted malts. Where are the hops? Flavour is composed of sweet berry, dried fruit, toffee, brown bread and toasted grains, maybe some light pine hops bit it is very low. Palate is medium sweet, malty, airy carbonation, grainy on the tongue. A good beer but nothing like its namesake.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush, 20/10/15. Rich chestnut brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is toffee, rich malt, dates, biscuit, brown bread. Taste carries earthy hop notes, lightly burnt toffee, faint cocoa, malt loaf, dates, fruit cake. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boosty tickle. Ok Stronge.

Keg at BD Camden. I have now had Arrogant Bastard brewed at 3 different different locations. It pours a beautiful deep ruby - red colour with a thick yellow - beige head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, dark fruits, jammy berry, earth, toasted pine and toffee. The taste is rather bitter, toasty, charred pine, resin, dark fruits, earth, wood and pepper with a long, lingering bitter finish. Medium + body and moderate carbonation. Rather nice overall.
