Classic Murican barleywine. Heavy monster, boozy. Big amount of malt, but also pretty heavily hopped, giving it some bitterness and resin. Dried fruit, bit of sweetness, and some herbal notes. A very nicely made example.

22 oz. bottle, pours a murky dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is loaded with earthy rye, whiskey barrels, some vanilla, and rich caramel. Flavour is rich, with loads of caramel, whiskey barrels, a lot of vanilla, and some earthy notes. Loads of caramel, vanilla and earthy bourbon on the finish. Rounded, not to sweet, bold. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber red color with a medium to large tan head. A big malty sweet and whiskey nose. Rich, caramel, toast, huge malts, the whiskey is huge, toffee, some butterscotch. Very good. Big beer.

Tap at Takumiya. A blond barrel aged barleywine that is a muddy orange in appearance. The nose is big oaky tannic aroma that is a bit sweet. Medium to full bodied, this a bit boozy and sweet, tannic, oak, charr, dried fruits. Good but full on. This is pretty solid with a good barrel character presented with balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thick frothy white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, toffee, dark fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of rye whiskey, dried fruits, caramel malt and fruity hops. The finish is spicy rye and bourbon. Pretty good all around.

Bottle, 22oz, shared by cunningham. A hazy dark golden-colored beer with a minimal sized light beige head. The aroma is sort of boozy, with loads of piney and resiny hops and a touch of sugary malts. It’s full-bodied, warming and nicely carbonated, with a good bitterness. Pine cones, resins and some sugary malts in the flavor, with some caramel notes. Lasting finish with bitterness, pine cones and resins. Not my favorite from FiftyFifty, too boozy I think, but it’s sure a fine brew. 170311
