First brewed in January 2016 to commemorate the original Wimbledon Brewery fire of 1889. Now the Phoenix rises in the form of a delicious, London porter. Smooth and rich with hints of chocolate, spice and red fruit. These all combine to produce a great depth of flavour.

Handpull cask at the Antelope, Tooting.dark bioengineering with a little bit of translucency, and a small ring of off-white head. Aroma of coffee grounds, ash, the lightest touch of vinegar. Nicely balanced taste with bittering hops cutting the sweetness. Slightly drying finish. Thin body with nil carbonation. All in all a good beer.

Keg at Horse & Groom, Chobham. Just as 'London Porter' but that may just be what the bar have put on the board? Aroma is sweet yet smoky - caramel and chocolate. Opaque cola brown. Thin translucent beige head. Initial sour berry edge before malty chocolate and sweet caramel come through. Underlying bitterness but the sourness is what remains until the finish. Veg hints. Light-medium bodied. Watered down oily mouthfeel. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long finish. The aroma suggested it'll be more interesting than it is. A watery Porter that develops veg notes. Not a classic.

Cask at George, Croydon. It pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, smoked action, milk chocolate, leather, coffee grounds, liquorice and toasted nut. The taste is rich roasted malts, mellow smoke, bitter - sweet, peppery spice, charred wood, chocolate, leather, tobacco, dried fruits and cake with a lingering toasty - smoked finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Quite robust. A good smoked porter.

Cask-conditioned at the Red Lion & Pineapple (JDW), Acton 30/1/2017. Near black in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. Aroma of toasty malts and plain chocolate. Flavour had dense malts, more chocolate and a hint of spice, before a dry, slightly smoky, finish. Good.
