Handpull cask at the Portland Arms, Cambridge. Dark brown with an odd hint of grey, maybe it’s just me as its dark in here. Any head quickly disappears. Some smoke but it’s got a sour aroma with roast malts. Sweet taste at first which quickly becomes drier and more sour. Balanced bittersweet finish. Medium to full body. It’s ok but it is a bit messy.

Taste is medium sweet malt, some caramel, dark chocolate, some roasted malt, medium smoke and bacon, bit soury, light+ bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. Cask handpull at The Blackfriar. Black beer lasting beige head. charcoal smoke aroma. It’s not German sausage for sure. Very good in mouth. Oddly drinkable smoked liquorice stout dry. Likeable

Cask at the Falcon. It pours pretty much black with a substantial tan head. The nose is rich roast, smoked malts, earth, cacao nibs, tobacco and coffee grounds. The taste is bitter, rich roast, earth, charred wood, smoke, coffee, cocoa, some acidity and chewy malt with a dry, smoked finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty alright actually. Good body. One of Belhavens better beers.

Cask at the Haymarket. Pours clear dark brown, faint red chinks of light coming through. Thin beige head. Aromas of toffee and chocolate, honeycomb. Taste is sweet, some smoke coming through. Smoky chocolate finish. Ok, but the flavours clash a bit for me.

Cask at the Carpenters Arms, Tourist Town Zentrum, 29/12/15. Black with a decent tan covering. Nose is treacle toffee, dark malt, spice, a touch thin. Taste picks up comprising smoked malt, toffee, dark fruit rinds, light cocoa. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Ok if a touch sweet.

On cask @ the Haymarket. Close to opaque black but with a soft brown edge. Slightly off white head. Toffee and chocolate. Light smoke if you look for it. Big crunchie bar notes - chocolate, toffee and honeycomb. Medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. A lovely stout.
