Every year, the Mad Scientists make a pilgrimage to the hop motherland during harvest time.
The quest is to find the ripest, juiciest cones to put into SENSI. This year, Amarillo and Cascade were calling our name. Crack open SENSI 2015 and be transported to the hop fields… it’s Mad Science.
Like most any plant or spice, hop flowers begin to wilt soon after they are harvested. To preserve the essential flavors, most hops used year round have been dried and pelletized. Beers made with dried hops and pellets are obviously amazing, but there are certain intrinsic qualities and flavors of wet-hops that are inevitably altered in the hop kilns. That’s why we rush-deliver mountains of just picked hops from bine to beer in under 24 hours. Crack open SENSI and be transported out to the hop fields. SENSI is that hop harvest captured in a can.

Sample during the "Hoppin’ On Deck" tasting on 05/27/2016. This beer pours a clear copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, pine and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

12oz can. Somewhat of a classic NW feel, maybe aiming for a more juicy feel. A pretty solid wet hop IPA. Has some nice earthy tones. A pretty tasty IPA, but Cascade is kind of boring in 2015, fresh hop or not. Still OK.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a dark toffee color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with caramel, pine and fruity hops. The flavor was bitter and tangy with caramel, moderate fruity hops, honey and pine. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Draught @ Albion. Slightly cloudy dark orange with small foamy off-white head, orange peel aroma, low carbonation, sweetish grapefruit taste, thin body, medium citrus finish. The hoppy bitterness is not there.

Can shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Many thanks to Manny G! Pours clear orange-gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has lots of pine, some fusel qualities, ripe orange. Medium sweet flavor with notes of grainy bread, ripe citrus, more orange, pine needles. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous in the finish, with some gooey citrus fruits and piney bitterness. Not bad.

Craft Clerkenwell. Bottleshare. Thanks to Padraig. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Fluffy pale malts, mild sweetness. Citric peel bitterness and a little floral bitterness. Touch of fruit salad. Bitter floral finish. Not bad.

12 ounce can. Amber orange with a moderate rocky head. Grassy hop aroma. Hints of hay and cauliflower. Earthy malt with tannic constituency. Nice complex hop register with notes of fragrance and noble means. I need a shave. Go figure. Overall, a very liquid brew with hints of bay leaves and quinoa. Just kidding.
