CBC Session 4. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and dry, modest crispness. Mild dark malts, light and dry. Touch of lactose and a whisper of ester. Not much else here. Dry finish. Dull.

Draft @ Novare Res Bier Café. Dim lighting shows me a dark black color with lasting head in a tulip glass. Aroma of roasted barley, chocolate, coffee dregs and a candy like note. Nice!

The flavor is close to an oatmeal stout. Chewy oat texture with deep roasted grain body. Medium in body leaning on full. Has hints of dark fruit but the char and roasted grain takes over the light fruit or candy hint. The mouthfeel is ashy and lightly smoky. I order this because it was a collaboration and didn’t have any idea what it was from the menu, I like it because of the stout elements to it.

Tap at Max’s 4/27/14. Oily. Drinks more like a mellow stout. I get the Belgian yeast, but more amber-chocolate than Quad. A touch of raisins. Somewhat buttery, semi sweet. OK, big and full bodied.
