Level 42 bottleshare. Clear amber brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Modest carbonation. Slightly bitter roasty dark malts. Contrasting milky sweetness. Some dark fruits. Somewhat awkward and lacking any real hop.

Tap at Zil Verne. Asertive roastiness, also lots of citrusy resiny grassy hops flavours. High bitterness, yet easy drinking. Very good.

Bottle thanks to Ken. It pours darkest brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is earthy roast, toast, brown bread, spicy, oxidised notes and light Worchestershire sauce. The taste is brown bread, earthy roast, coffee grounds, oxo cubes, spicy, mild sweetness and some astringency with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Spicy and bit meaty. Not great.

Bottle at Level 42, thanks to Kenny, 27/07/16. Dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is earthy, dusty fruits, toffee, brown bread, light spice, touch of fart. Taste comprises brown bread, spice, charr, light cocoa, red berry snap, dusty leafy hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop dusting. So so CDA, ticks the style boxes but not one I’d revisit.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Kenny. Pours clear brown with a foamy, khaki head. Toasted biscuits in the nose, milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavour with more milky chocolate, soft roast, light earth, more toasted biscuits, toffee. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, with further biscuits, earth, chocolate. Simplistic but enjoyable.
