Last brewed by Simonds of Reading in 1880, this is a light copper coloured, aged ale with a dense, white head, orange fruit aroma, nutty and slightly vinous flavour, followed by a spicy, herbal hoppiness.

The brewery founded in Broad Street in 1774 by William Simonds, later moved to Bridge Street where brewing ended in 1980. From 1813 they supplied Sandhurst Royal Military Academy and later the military in Aldershot.

Level 42 bottleshare. Thanks to Paul. Lightly hazy orange - amber beer, small cream colour head. Airy palate, fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, rich and sweet, touch of caramel. Whisper of wood. Good floral dried fruits. A mild bitterness comes in on the light finish. Rich and tasty bitter. I really like these glimpses of the past, hope Luckie continue the tradition.

Bottle shared in London - cheers to Scopey. Pours mostly clear gold with a frothy, billowing off-white head. Some leafy hops in the nose, a little plastic, orange peel. Light to medium sweet flavour with caramel, light oxidation, more leaves, damp wood. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Sweet finish with more wood, toasted sugars, lig caramel, more oxidation, leaves. So so.

500ml bottle from cornelius. Pours dark amber, thick white head. Lots of red fruit in the aromas, redcurrant in fact. Some toffee notes. Taste is light sweet, well rounded, creamy. Bitter and nutty at the end. Nice.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy amber/ruby body with no head. Low carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of orange, toffee, mushy red apple, caramel and cherry. Flavour of spicy apple, yeast and almonds. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Sweet and flavoursome. Quite boozy though.
