Isle of Eriska Voyage in collaboration with Forest Road
"Our walks in the woods brought me right back to the fort-building days of my childhood in New England. The cold weather squeezed a moist coating of dew on the trees absorbed by the wild lichen and moss covering their bark. There's nothing that makes me want to have a cold stout-porter than being with good beer-drinking pals surrounded by tall trees on a cold day in Scotland. Dedicated to the oaks of Eriska for reminding me it's black-beer season."

In a freebie 8 pack from Beer52. At first it has a creamy mocha aroma, before dark berries come through. Dark and glossy. Thick and creamy beige head. Bitter with a sour edge. Tart berries and coffee. Develops a craziness into the finish. But the tartness remains. Medium bodied. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long if low key finish, with an astringent element. Decent porter. Could do with less of the tartness.

33cl bottle from Beer52. An opaque cola brown colour with a tight tan coloured head; earthy aroma; rather thin with a sugary malt taste; and an earthy finish.

Bottle thanks to Partizan Andy. It pours dark brown - black with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasty, roasted malt, umami, meatiness, chocolate and caramel. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, caramel, cola, brown bread, brown sugar, roasted malt, dried fruits, bit of spice and wood with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Well rounded and drinkable.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Scopey. Pours rich brown with a creamy, khaki head. The nose balanced roast, a little smoked meat, cocoa. Meidum sweet flavour with mild scorched earth bitterness, bittersweet cocoa, further smoke, a little wood, burnt marshmallows. Meidum bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with some ashy roast, more cocoa, charred meat. Solid stuff.
