Let’s face it – we love big, flavorful stouts. As luck would have it, our friend Jeppe at Evil Twin Brewing feels the same way. We decided to brew a beer together that took elements from our favorite stouts we each produce to come together as one beer. Bible Belt takes elements we love from Prairie Bomb! and combines them with Evil Twin Brewing’s world famous stout, Even More Jesus. The end result is a smoky, spicy stout that is sure to please the pallet.

Pours black with a medium sized head. Just a little bit of brown at the edges but it’s quite dark. The head puffed up pretty good with a semi-hard pour and settled to a thick blanket. Lots of bubbles on the walls of my tulip. Aroma is big on chocolate with solid roast, coffee, vanilla and chili notes. There are layers of flavor to this beer. The vanilla is sweet and gives the beer some sugary, marshmallowy character. Lots of cocoa and milk chocolate. Some dark chocolate. Good, solid roast and coffee, not very fruity though it could just be hidden beneath everything else. The chili is pleasantly spicy. Very nice balance between the different flavors. Taste is a bit simpler. It’s more of a dance between the chili/roast and sweet vanilla/chocolate/caramel. Each side of that gets a bit blurred together compared to the aroma. Still, it’s delicious. Starts sweet but the finish is drier than expected. Excellent mouthfeel. It’s smooth and creamy without being cloying at all. No booziness. Very good stout. The chili flavor seems stronger than what I remember from Bomb! though I don’t think I’ve tried that since the first batch. Also, a bit simpler somehow than Bomb! At any rate, it’s pretty awesome to have this stuff on the shelves at local stores.

Bottle thanks to Jack to the L. It pours black with a thick tan head. The nose is rich, toasty, earth, coffee, dirt, cocoa and just a touch of spice. The taste is rich, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, dirt, molases, toast, earth, chilli spice and warming alcohol on the finish. Medium-full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty punchy stuff, but works well.

10.05.2014, 0,35l bottle @ home, courtesy of RobertDale:
Big brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, espresso, cocoa, caramel, dark malts, vanilla, dark sugar, grass, mild chillies, yoghurt candy. Taste is kind of roasted and mineraly, dark malts, espresso, mild chillies, minerals, grass, vanilla, cocoa, burnt caramel, hay. Medium bitterness, nice warming chili touch, dry kind of metallic mouthfeel. Both Even more Jesus and Bomb! is way better than this separately...
