Let’s face it – we love big, flavorful stouts. As luck would have it, our friend Jeppe at Evil Twin Brewing feels the same way. We decided to brew a beer together that took elements from our favorite stouts we each produce to come together as one beer. Bible Belt takes elements we love from Prairie Bomb! and combines them with Evil Twin Brewing’s world famous stout, Even More Jesus. The end result is a smoky, spicy stout that is sure to please the pallet.

12oz bottle pours an inky, opaque black with some frothy, beige head which settled into a cloudy ring. Nose has a lot of dried raisin and ancho chile, heavy licorice, molasses, pencil lead, some soy, some roasted mushroom, a little wet cacao nib, some wet coffee bean too. Flavor is well balanced, plenty of licorice though, molasses, some black pepper, a little pencil lead, very earthy, wet soil, coffee grounds, burnt toast, some cacao nib, a little bit of soy. Full bodied, plenty of umami, but dry finish. Can’t believe this is 13% alcohol,

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours an opaque black with a brown if dissipating head. Heavily complex aroma, sweet roast as a base but all of the coffee, cocoa and chili is coming through. Rich and potent, sweet roast, some tar, smooth and creamy on the palate with just enough of all the spices to keep things drinkable and fairly in balance. Some alcohol burn. Lovely. 110614

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours super black with a slight, unbelievably dark, tan head. Aroma is complex coffee, chocolate, chili, very dark malt. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, chili, earthy dark malt, and coffee. Vanilla? Who can tell with all this complexity. It’s not exactly dry, but it’s certainly not sweet. No heat except way, way down in the gullet. Amazing stuff.

Bottle: Very dark brown pour topped with a thick, creamy brown head. Nice topper and lacing throughout. Nose is heavy in roast and coffee, vanilla, and the smoke/ash I associate with chili peppers. Taste is sweeter up front, I really like the amount of vanilla, into a heavy roast and espresso finish. The heat comes along a little later with smoke and ash. It compliments one another well and the amount of vanilla is perfect. Right on par with Bomb!
