Creamy tan head left a spotty cover on a mahogany coloured still body. Wood, oak & vinous aroma. Medium bodied, clean & light on the palate with a clean back. Oak, cherry, vinous, brett, aniseed & chocolate tastes.

30th Oct 2017. A 5th of a large bottle (BBD 2040) in Chez Sophie with friends, cheers Simon for bringing this to the monthly beer share. Dark brown body, tanned head. Would never have though this was an Imp Stout had it been a blind tasting, not enough body depth. I did like it though, semi-sweet with a herbal and Brett base, didn't find any Cherry Pie, which would have been nice.

660ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 17 Part 2, courtesy of Simon. Many thanks Simon. Pours dark reddish black, small tan head. Aroma of sugary red bretty berries. Taste is extremely light, fairly sweet prominent spicy brett, perhaps a bit too much. Not really an Imperial Stout, brings to mind more of an Alvinne dark sour, but the brett sweetness is a bit overpowering.

Keg at IMBC 2017. Pours opaque black with minor beige foam. Aroma: sour, brett funk, vinous, mild roast, chocolate. Taste: brett funk dominant, light tart/sour, tangy, chocolate, red wine barrel. Light to medium body with light carbonation. An interesting flavour journey.

On cask @ the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - opaque black with a nice sheen. Proportionate creamy head. Nose - again didn’t read the description, so was surprised to find it was sour on the nose. Some chocolate and roast if you look for it. Taste - the tart yeast seems to smooth over any chocolate notes, but there is an element of something creamy in there. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long persistent tangy finish. Overall - it works. It’s not an Imperial Stout. It fits best into Flemish Brown probably.
