Bottle from Biernavigatie. Pours a brown colour rather than the expected black. Aroma is brown malts, caramel, toffee, hoppy notes, touch of nuts, lightly fruits, metallic notes, mild pine resin. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Not at all like Black IPA, I'll be generous and call this a Brown IPA. Not a bad beer at all, just not what I'd hoped for.

Level 42 Bottleshare. Hazy amber beer, small cream colour head. Softish palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, mild creamy sweetness. Decent hop spice, little marmalade and pine. Light semi dry finish. Not much dark malt character here, but decent hop spice.

Bottle split at L42, thanks to Kenny, 19/10/17. Rich chestnut brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is caramel, spice, charr, light floral hop notes. Taste comprises sweet malts, brown bread, biscuit, spice, dark fruit rinds, treacle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with dusty hop bitterness. Ok but a rather basic CDA.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - many thanks to Krazy Kenny. Pours lightly hazy amber-brown with a creamy, off-white head. Toasted grains in the nose, leathery berries, brown bread. Medium sweet flavour, a little ashy, with faint cocoa, earthy hops, nips of plastic. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Astringent finish, with more faint cocoa, ash, toasted grains. OK.

Bottle at level 42 thanks to Kenny. It pours hazy deep amber – brown with a bubbly beige head. The aroma is sweet, icing sugar, varnish, apple, toasty grain, coffee grounds and some meatiness. The taste is dry, toasty, earthy, wood, burnt coffee grounds, charred wood, chewiness, tree bark, leather and spice with a dry, toasty finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. A bit chewy and burnt. Mediocre at best…
