Barrel Aged Sour Red Ale. Named after spaghetti western royalty, This beer is a love letter to Belgian style kriek. Each bottle contains roughly 200 grams (a fist full) of fresh Marlborough cherries, making it beautifully sour and fruity “go ahead, load up and shoot”.

Bottle. Unclear reddish orange body with a light off-white head. Aroma has acidic cherries, vinegar and hint of almond and lemon. Flavor is as expected pretty sour and tart, the cherry flavor is distinct but kind of mellow, gives a rather smooth thing to work against the more raw and acidic flavors. From one angel this beer feels quite one-dimensional and almost a bit unfinished but having some more sips it opens up with much more complexity. Not exactly balanced in flavor, but balanced in body and ends up with a really pleasant aftertaste. Like it a lot and think this might have some aging potential.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas' place. Deep red. Cherries, funk, a bit of marzipan, vinegar, some acetone, sour, juicy, a bit lemony, a bit acetic. Very nice.

500ml bottle. Clear, redd-ish golden colour with small, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Vinous, fruity, funky and slightly oaky aroma, notes of cherry, tart cherry, blue grapes, red wine, a touch of almond. Taste is tart, dry, woody, funky and vinous fruity, slightly tangy, notes of cherry, tart cherry, some oak, some orange zest, hints of blue grapes, red wine, a touch of mustard seed, tarragon; sour finish with notes of old lemon peel. Watery texture, minimally astringent palate, lively, prickly carbonation.

2017 version on tap. Pours red/pink. Cherry nose. Great mouthfeel with a fizz on tongue yet some strange sense of body. Gorgeous fruity, berry party going on that I want to linger in all night.

Aromas are Brett, cherries, Cherry Brandy. Flavors aren't as good as the nose fairly one-dimensional tart beer with a hint of cherry. Strong carbonation accents the sour. Okay regular ol sour beer and that's about it.

2016 bottle.
It pours a dark red, not quite clear, small head of foam, some sticky lacing.
Smells both vinous and acetic. Sour either way. Lots of oak, some Brett, the cherries seem to be way in the background.
Sour cherries taste with a momentary sweet note or 2, oak, light Brett, again, very much vinous and that works for me.
Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
A fine beer.
