Bonfire Boy is brewed seasonally for the November 5th celebrations that Lewes is renowned for. Originally called ’Firecracker’ and brewed to commemorate the gallant work of the Fire Brigade during the fire at the brewery in July 1996. The label depicts the uniform of the Cliffe Fire Brigade circa 1880.

A dark amber beer with a full malty palate and a slightly burnt, bitter aftertaste. A small quantity of black malt is used to impart the suggestion of smoke.

(Cask at Royal Oak, Borough, London, 25 Nov 2009) Reddish amber colour with brief head. Fruity, malty nose with dried fruit, yeast, citrus peel, earthy hops and that slightly sulphury house character of the brewery. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel, earthy hops and a touch of yeast. Almost full body, fairly sweet. Potent and warming beer for a dark November evening. Very nice.

2008-11-05, cask conditioned at The Royal Oak, London, 6-4-8-4-15=37
Dark amber color. Medium caramel aroma, with a light fruitness similar to apples. Good caramel flavor, sweet, round mouthfeel, lightly fruity, with a perfect balance with bitterness. Very good.

Dark amber color. Quite malty aroma. Very round taste, some sweetness, very good malt, lightly fruity (the yeast, I guess), sweet caramel, the bitterness tries to rise at the end. Excellent.

Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms. Undergoing a run of good beers at the moment, Harvey’s continues with this strong ale. Russet/deep ruby in colour with thin off white head. Distinctive Harvey’s yeast on nose, but also incredible malt aromas too of toffee and choc. Mouthfeel is good and full with yeast, drying hop and toffee sweetness on the end. Brilliant Re-rate, Lord Nelson, Brighton. Chestnut with disappearing head. Harvey’s yeast and fruity malt aroma. Syrupy malt in mouth, some nice fruit. It’s a good English strong beer, but lacks the heights of previous rating. May need a bit more time for the malt to soften. 3.5/5

An unclear red beer with a small head. It has no aroma. The flavor is very hoppy - combined with sweet malt and raspberries. A great flavor.
