Our second Abstrakt release of 2018 comes in the form of an intense bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout, with none other than Uncle Duke's. At 11.5% and with 6 months spent in bourbon barrels, it has resurfaced as a smouldering but gentle beast with layers of flavour. This beer is enkindled with the sweet notes of molasses, rich dark chocolate and campfire coffee giving whisps of smoke and charred wood followed by a warming bourbon finish.

Keg at BD Union Square. It pours opaque jet black with a small light tan head. The aroma is sweet, dark chocolate, chocolate cake, rocky road, whiskey, vanilla, crunchie, earthy roast, bit of coffee, toffee and fudge. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malt, cacao nibs, warming whiskey, vanilla, bit of fruit cake, booze soaked raisins, coffee, peppery spice, toothy, chewy and moreish. Finish is lingering boozy warmth. Full body, fine carbonation and slightly oily mouth - feel. Nice balance and quaffable. Not quite as good as Paradox Uncle Dukes, but close.

Keg at BrewDog Leicester. Very, very dark brown with a hint of translucency. Big ring of tan head. Bit hits of whisky and leather on the nose. Sweet taste with the whisky sour notes coming around in the finish. Soft carbonation lets the thick body shine through. Similar to AB:22 which I had last night, as well as the Uncle Duke's Paradox, but this is smoother and more drinkable than either. A big win.
