Our second Abstrakt release of 2018 comes in the form of an intense bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout, with none other than Uncle Duke's. At 11.5% and with 6 months spent in bourbon barrels, it has resurfaced as a smouldering but gentle beast with layers of flavour. This beer is enkindled with the sweet notes of molasses, rich dark chocolate and campfire coffee giving whisps of smoke and charred wood followed by a warming bourbon finish.

Keg at Metro Mayhem - London. Pours oily black-brown with a tight, creamy beige head. Really nice, dense, with lots of rocky road, burnt marshmallows, dark berries and cocoa. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, further baking cocoa, ashy roast and dark fruits. Stellar.

28.12.2018, tap @ Apollon:
Nice light brown slightly fizzy-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, dark sugar, dark malts, mild bourbon, chocolate, licorice, caramel, minerals, nuts, hints of vanilla and tar. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish boozy, bark, dark malts, bourbon, minerals, licorice, paper, tar, dark sugar, burnt coffee, soil, fruit stones, cough syrup. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly watery and harsh boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough.

On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd, Edinburgh. Appearance - deep brown to black with a nice fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate with smoke. Taste - creamy chocolate but very dark. Raisins in there too. Palate - creamy and full bodied. Long and elegant finish. Overall - a solid wall of chocolate.

On tap at BrewDog Soho. Black beer lasting tan head. Oddly vinous on aroma along with liquorice and chocolate. Malty in mouth. Some dark chocolate. Complex aroma and then fairly simple continuation into mouth. Dry malty flavour. Some juicy liquorice presence. Some dark fruits. Light mint. It's kinda OK but not the best Abstrakt. Liquorice flavours have never been my thing.
