Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Wine Cellar, Dalston.pours well clear gold with a creamy, white topping. Modest sweetness, pale bread, a little straw, vague citrus impressions, biscuits, British yeast. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Decent balance to finish, bit more yeast expression, bready biscuits, light bitter lemon rind. Easy-drinking gold.

Bottle from Hogs Back Brewery shop. Aroma has caramel and malts. A tad buttery. Amber gold. Thin bubbly translucent white head. Citrusy sourness and sweet malts. All relatively low key. Slightly bitter into the finish. Light. Thin if slick. Flat carbonation. Pretty boring Gold saved by citrus.

28/8/2018. Bottle from Kris Wines. Pours clear still pale gold with a foamy white head. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit, flowers, caramel and a slight buttery and soapy edge. Light sweetness, quite a sharp bitterness. Moderate body, oily texture, and a fizzy spritzy carbonation. Says brewed to complement spiced foods and can imagine it working well but on its own it wasn't anything special.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Gold in hue with a light fizz. Very smooth and soft in the mouth. The aroma and flavour are very muted- some mild lemon and that’s about it. I spoke to the brand owner who said his mission was to provide Indian restaurants with an alternative to the bland tasteless lagers they normally served. When I pointed out that his beer was also a little bland, he said that you needed a low-flavour beer so that it didn’t overpower the curry, and was seemingly unable to spot how incongruous this seemed when placed against his mission statement! The whole food and beer pairing thing seems to have passed him by! To be fair, there’s nothing unpleasant about the beer and it’s quite quaffable, plus it might do well purely on the strength of the rather nice label design.
