Old Baba Yaga, the witch who guarded the fountain of life and death, held dominion over a wintery forest
landscape. This beer is brewed to both celebrate winter's bony fingers and represent some of the power of Baba Yaga's fountain. Aged in French Cognac barrels, the black depths of this Russian Imperial Stout hold coffee, licorice, and bittersweet chocolate flavors as well as the rich sweetness of cognac.

Draught at Bear Republic. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of raw sugar, chocolate, toffee, caramel, light butter and coffee. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, chocolate and coffee. Bit sour from the dark malt. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Not very elegant, but OK.

Draft at Snallygaster 2014. Poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was vanilla, oaked notes, caramel character, barrel. Caramel, alcohol notes, boozy cognac notes, malts, dark fruits, coffee. Lots of alcohol in this one, a little boozy.

On tap a O'Brien's, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cognac notes, and roasted malt. Flavour brings out cognac liqueur, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Quite full-bodied and fairly liqueur-oak. Good stuff.

On tap at the Olde Depot. Pours with a black hued body and a small tan ring. Aromas are big and fudgy with barrel, cognac, raisins, prunes, dark fruits, ashy, pipe tobacco. Flavors are roasty, dry, raisins, barrel, licorice, complex oak and barrel notes, lots of tannin and dates. Big, fuller bodied, medium carbonation. Grapey tannins surround the finish.
