2015 GABF gold medal and 2014 GABF silver medal in the imperial stout category. Double Negative pours jet black with burnt orange highlights. A long lasting tan head leaves abundant lacing. Aromas bursting from the glass include espresso, bitter chocolate, caramel, black currant and blueberry. Creamy and viscous on the palate, the flavor initially follows the nose. A pop of smooth bitterness comes after, and then a lingering, roasty finish.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a pitch black with a small brown head that lingers. Big coffee forward nose with dark roasted malt, cacao nib, fig, blackcurrant and light tobacco notes. Smooth on the palate, more roasted cacao nib and malt notes with a dark fruit undertone...some fig as well. Good body. Lingering coffee and cacao bitterness with dark fruit.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Nose brings out medium roasted malt and a touch of cocoa. Flavour is somewhat sweet, with medium roast, chocolate, and some lactose. Not very complex, but it's very tasty and well-made.

Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate notes with some dry raisins notes with some liquorish notes. Taste is a mix of liquorish notes with some bitter chocolate and light dry fruits notes. Body is lighter then I was expecting with some good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Weird mix of flavours on this one with too much dry fruits notes and bitter chocolate which didn’t paired well.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 4/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky tan head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, dark bread, raisin, plum, prune, fig, currant, blackberry, blueberry, and licorice; with light notes of smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of raisin, plum, prune, fig, currant, blackberry, blueberry, licorice, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast/char and herbal/woody/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, dark bread, dark fruit, licorice, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and minimal acrid/astringent flavors lingering after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an amazing imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV; with the mellowly bitter/roasty/drying finish. Amazing rich and well rounded imperial stout malt complexity; restrained fruity English yeast and balancing earthy hops. Pretty close to Russian Imperial Stout qualities for the style. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.
