2015 GABF gold medal and 2014 GABF silver medal in the imperial stout category. Double Negative pours jet black with burnt orange highlights. A long lasting tan head leaves abundant lacing. Aromas bursting from the glass include espresso, bitter chocolate, caramel, black currant and blueberry. Creamy and viscous on the palate, the flavor initially follows the nose. A pop of smooth bitterness comes after, and then a lingering, roasty finish.

Bottle at tasting. Aroma of chocolate, mocha, hopjesvla, malt and caramel. Taste has bitter mocha, caramel, hopjesvla, licorice and coffee. Very nice.

Small amber-cream head over virtually black beer. Pure coffee, mocha, sweet and mild-roasted nose. Coffee², sweetish mocha, well-roasted. In the background, a strange, nearly hidden fruity and bitterish flavour, difficult to name; alcohol. Well-bodied, medium carbonation. Quite good, if sweet Imperial Stout. 7/4/7/4/15

Bottle. A- Cocoa, blueberry, milky, A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Dark berries, cocoa, coffee, cream, mild bitterness, P- Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- A fair amount of dark berry along the lines of blueberry mixed with bitter chocolate make for a creamy and roasty invitation. Would love to try the barrel aged version.

Draught at Brewer's Tap and Table, 10/19/17. Dark mahogany-to-ebony, undetermined clarity with a solid, tan head atop. Burnt caramel, salty char and a moderate amount of fudge all give a good balance of sweet, salty and roasty. Light vanilla, moderate bourbon and strong coffee bring up the rear, as alcohol is quite well-concealed and the oak is pretty restrained as far as toasted character. Light vinousness emerges with warming and there is some light alcohol character, though it's not boozy/messy. Quite a rich, robust, strong aroma, but thankfully it's not a bunch of fudge or booze. Soft, malty, rich and with dollops of caramel, milk chocolate and saltier char through the middle, gaining a bit of sticky-sweet fudge but quickly finding balance again in roast, vanilla and bourbon. Lots of chocolate and a fair amount of malt collects on the finish as a bit of alcohol warmth and dry, toasted oak arrive. Definitely a dessert-style Imperial without being punishingly sweet or full of adjuncts; so that's definitely a good thing. 7/4/7/4/15

Wow this is way better than I remember. Rich and malty yet well-attenuated with fruity, mild but flavorful roast as well as treacle, molasses, maple and raisin. A good mix of both dark fruit and more contemporary fudge/chocolate notes with an ultra-soft, creamy texture and low but engaging carbonation. No alcohol noted. Lovely. Upping the score (overall is for this bottle).

On tap at Gold Star Beer Counter, Brooklyn. Pours black, medium beige head. Chocolate, roasted mats, some dark fruit notes, coffee, sweet, bitter finish, bit rough around the edges. Medium to full bodied.

Shared 22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy dark beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, hints of smoke. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee notes, ash. Bitter and roasty finish. Very good.

650ml bottle (thx, John P.!) shared at Brian’s. Bottled on March-2017. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Aroma is roastead malt and hops. Taste is similar. Quite good stuff.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall perfectly formed rich dark brown head that almost looks like nitrogen. Full-bodied; Super strong rich malty flavours with a lot of anise and coffee noticeable along with some smoked peat and a lot of lactose still around after the fermentation. Aftertaste is pungent and strong with a lot of bite and sugars still evident near the end, almost all from cream and biting cacao with a touch of coffee noticeable as well. Overall, a very nice Imperial Stout with a well rounded flavour and a pungent coffee and chocolate bite. Good to try on tap and nice, even though it’s almost 90 degrees outside. I sampled this eight ounce pour on draught from Rattle N Hum (West) in New York, New York on 10-June-2017 for US$8,00 sampled when my daughters were taking a nap!
