On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong earthy malt and roast. Thin mouth, cloraseptic and nasty burn why

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours clear red with a slight filmy head. The nose has some wintery spices, lightly toasted bread. Light sweet flavor with outrageous bitterness, lots of astringency, earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Harsh tea leaves and grass in the finish. Super astringent and bitter. Undrinkable.

Sample at GABF 10/13/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. This Scottish Gruit style beer is a dark amber-brown color with a medium beige head and strings of lacing. Aroma of herbs and sweet malt. Medium body with flavors of smoky malt, herbal hops and dark fruit. The finish is toasty with a sweet malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

Hazy dark amber with a thick beige head. Nice aromas of malt and herbs. Medium body and average carbonation. It’s malty, but there is a lot of unusual flavor, and that tends to knock down the sweetness. Decently bitter. Slightly medicinal in the finish. Doesn’t finish sweet. A complex flavor set like no other. Pretty tasty.
