Draft: Poured a back with a tan head. Aroma was nutty and roasted malt. Taste was flat hazelnut and roasted malts.

On tap @ the brewpub during RateBeer weekend. Thick blackish red appearance with little head. Anise, chocolate, roast in the nose though not overly aromatic. High boost. Very sweet and moderate to high bitterness. The flavor offers notes of raisins, Belgian chocolate, caramel, and candy. Not good.

Cask at the brewpub, 01/02/16. Black topped with a dirty tan swirl. Nose is Cadburys Whole Nut, light roast, mellow dark fruits, tar. Taste comprises dark chocolate, nutty, liquorice, faint spice, charr. Full bodied, soft mouthfeel, light warming alcohol in the close. Ok cask impy but no great.

Draft at the brewpub. Mahogany brown coloured pout with no head. Aroma is liquorice. Nutty malts, little roast. Flavour is sticky toffee. Black liquorice fruit berry. Palate is sticky and dull and lifeless. Lingering bitter black malts.

[2/1/16] Draught at Moylan’s Brewery in Novato. Black. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, dark fruits, booziness. Sweetish flavor with chocolate, nuts, dark fruits, alcohol, bitterish finish.

Draft - Dark roast, chocolate and light nutty note. Deep black with a small brown head. Lots of deep roast, hazelnut in the background and a dark chocolate sweet bitterness.

On cask at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is strong roast and chocolate. Thin mouth, dark chocolate, cracker malt, lingering bitter roast finish, good.

Cask at the brewpub. Pours black-brown with a foamy tan head. The nose has some dark malts, light cocoa, toffee. Medium sweet flavor with mild rubber notes, some earthy astringency, ashy roast, baking cocoa. Full bodied, oily, with soft carbonation. Strongly bitter finish, lots of hard ashy roast, baking cocoa. A little rough.

Draught at Moylans. Opaque black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, coffee, light licorice and raw sugar. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of chocolate, nuts and raw sugar. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice.
