Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, roast, liquorice, coffee, some dark chocolate and vanilla. Flavour is light sweet and above moderate roasty bitter. Body is medium. A bit too heavy on the liquorice for my taste, but has some nice touches of vanilla and roasty coffee.

Bottle. Ours black with a decent tan head. Aroma is lots of roast, liquorice, coffee, chocolat. Lots of liquorice, some vanilla. Medium bitterness. Flavour is dark malts, rather light actually, but with strong roasty and liquorice notes. Some chocolate and coffee notes, vanilly in the back. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Quite a good porter, a bit too much liqurice for me personally.

Bottle from Albert Heijn. Pours hazy black with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of earth, liquorice, mocha, fig, toast, pistachio, 'raw' vanilla, blackcurrant. Taste has sweet dark chocolate, pistachio & a vanilla touch, surrounded by sweet-sour fig & berries; spicy liquorice kicking in next to bitter coffee, chicory almost, as well as a vague umami hint. Dry, herbal hoppy finish, lingering spicy liquorice, bitter mocha & still some vanilla. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Delicate balance, but a tad more vanilla would have been more welcome.

Botle at a tasting, Zil verne. You do not need 10 special ingredients to make a complex flavoured beer. Moderate roasty malts combine with assertive liqorice and light vanilla presence to produce a nice full bodied, yet dry beer, with a slightly woody finish. Good but not great.
