750 c&c from SPRL Beer Shop in Brussels. Pours ruddy brown with a beige head. Aroma is smoke and caramel. Med body or better. Flavoring peat smoke and caramel. Not dry, but not bitter. Heat isn’t obnoxious. Quite pleasant.

75 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. 1400th rating and that on my birthday ;-). Pours dark brown with a beige head. rich malty aroma with dark fruits, whisky and molasses. Sweet taste and a syruppy mouthfeel. Very interesting beer but I prefer the real deal i.e. the Gouden Carolus Cuvee van de Keizer to this one. I love beer and whisky but for me those two just don’t work that well together. This goes for the whisky infused kinds as well as for the whisky barrel ages ones.

Bottle from Mitra Bunnik, large sample. Dark brown color, medium frothy head. Aroma has spicy yeast, caramel, bit chocolate, some vanilla, oak wood, christmas cake. Bouteille 75cl, BB end 2025. Couleur acajou, col généreux et crémeux blanc-cassé, léger huileux au verre. Arôme offre un nez modéré de whisky avec un léger boisé perçant en rétro, certaine douceur vanillée perce tout en gardant une approche assez belge au niveau des esters - touche de banane avec un côté flocons de noix de coco, fin citronné. Palais est complexe sans pour cela que les 11% soit trop perturbant. Retrouve un généreux fruité noir rappelant les dates, figues, sucre brun, malt caramel, grillé. Le whisky est appréciable surtout que l’on parle de la distillation propre à Anker ajoute une dimension agréable sans pour cela devenir trop dominante. Reprend la base solide de Carolus mais avec un ajout intéressant de cask qui ne dénature pas la base et l’aide à conserver son côté belge renforcé par des malts grillé, fin choco, et plein de fruits noirs.

75cl Bottle from Vonk. Deep dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of candy, alcohol, light booze, hint of cocoa, dark malts, some dark fruits. Flavour is sweet, dark fruits, molasses, booze, candy, light vanilla, bittersweet boozy finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Good.

(Bottle, 0.75 l - BBE 2025, at tiong’s tasting, thanks VastActiv, 20160109) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had caramelly malts, yeast and wood. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, aniseed, wood and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet. This brewery brews really good beer so why did they create this one... a sweet messy brew.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Clear dark mahogany colour, small creamy head. Muscovado sugar and marzipan up front. Very sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Brown sugar, notes of licorice, a slight touch of whisky. Warming finish. Too sweet. Unusually unbalanced for a Gouden Carolus.
