This is what you get when you take a Russian Imperial Stout and mix it with an Imperial IPA, then force-feed it sugar until it can’t take any more. Then you put it into 2 different oak barrels that previously contained Bourbon. This is not beer or wine. It’s not spirit either. It’s inspired from America, born in Belgium and headed to outer space. It’s Mohawk Double Rocket , a Belgo-American Barrel Aged Barley Wine Style Ale.

Bottle at home. 8 year old. Pours a deep brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, rye bread, oatmeal crackers, leather and liqour. Flavour of raisins, rye bread, cocoa, leather and warming alcohol in the end. Has a silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a light bitterness. Malty and rich, especially in the mouth.

(Bottle, vintage 2012) Dark reddish brown colour with a brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of caramel, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins, prunes, oak wood and aromas of both cognac and bourbon. Malty, vinous taste with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, cherries in brandy, dark bread, prunes, chocolate, black coffee, salty liquorice and a fiery, vinous finish with oak wood, bourbon, a balanced bitterness and a warming alcohol glow. Full body, quite sweet. Subtle is hardly the word, it doesn’t hold back on anything, lots of malt and bourbon character and it doesn’t really hide the alcohol. But it’s really tasty, with a clean and rounded mouthfeel and a certain hop presence. Very nice.

Bottle shared at Cafe Abseits during the Bamberg Jolly - January 2014. Cheers! Pours lightly hazy golden brown with a foamy, off-white head. Decadent and ballsy, but very good. Lots of heavy bread, fruitcake, caramel. Full bodied with chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with gooey fruits, toffee. Good stuff in small doses.

Bottle from Systembolaget, bought in March 2013. Hazy dark brown with a small firm tan head. Aroma of alcohol, fruit, oak and bourbon. Sweet taste of oak, light licorice, bourbon, some fruit. The body was full and the carbonation low. Warming alcohol in the finish. Really strong but still rather drinkable.

375ml in a dark green bottle with a golden neck. Vintage 2012 bought at Vinmonopolet Tromsdalen. Fair fawn-coloured head dissipating over an unclear red-brownish body. Prominent aromas of bread, herbal hops and bourbon. Comprehensive taste of juicy bread, figs, vanilla oak and ripe orange. Port and bourbon backbone. Dried fruity ending with tingling alcohol down the swallow. Enjoying, heavy stuff. (Slow sipper during the earth hour, Tromsø 28.03.2015).
